HADRAMOUT, Feb. 24 (YPA)-The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramawt governorate, released journalist Emad Al-Dini on Sunday after three days of arbitrary detention following a raid on his home.
Media sources confirmed that Al-Dini returned to his home safely.
His release came based on directives from the presidency of the Public Funds Prosecution in the governorate, according to a circulated memorandum issued by the deputy of the primary Public Funds Prosecution in Hadramout, addressed to the security director of Mukalla district.
The memorandum stipulated the “release of Emad Al-Dini after obtaining the necessary guarantee for his appearance when summoned.”
The UAE-backed militia had stormed Al-Dini’s home in Mukalla on Thursday morning, assaulting him in front of his children and frightening his family before taking him to an unknown location, without providing any legal justification for the arrest, according to the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate, which strongly condemned the incident.
Al-Dini’s arrest and the raid on his house constitute a blatant violation of press and expression freedoms and represent a concerning escalation in the targeting of journalists and media professionals in the STC-held areas.
