TAIZ, Feb. 24 (YPA) – At least seven people were killed and many others were injured in clashes broke out on Sunday evening between the security forces affiliated with the Islah Party and armed individuals in the Ali Saleh market in the Qubba district, located in the center of Taiz city, which is under the control of the Islah Party.
Local sources reported a dispute between an elderly man and a Qat seller in the market. The elderly man had purchased khat yesterday afternoon and later returned in the evening to return it, which the seller refused and subsequently expelled the elderly man.
The sources added that the dispute escalated into a physical altercation, prompting security personnel to intervene and fire two warning shots. However, one of the shots struck the elderly man in his foot.
Later, the elderly man’s sons returned to the market and assaulted the Qat seller, killing him on the spot. The clashes also resulted in the deaths of six others who were in the market, and several people were injured as a result.
