UN Envoy: Peace in Yemen is still possible despite difficult challenges

AMMAN, Feb. 19 (YPA) – UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, affirmed on Wednesday that despite the difficult challenges the country is going through, the hope for achieving peace remains possible.

This came during his speech at the closing session of the “International Yemen Forum,” organized by the Sanaa Center for Studies and hosted by the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Grundberg pointed out that Yemen faces significant challenges, stressing the need to stop all forms of military escalation to avoid obstructing international efforts aimed at achieving peace.

In a related context, the envoy addressed the US decision regarding the designation of the Al-Houthi group (Ansarallah) as a foreign terrorist organization, acknowledging that the decision sparked much controversy and speculation. He also explained that work is underway to study the impact of this designation on the situation in Yemen.

At the conclusion of his speech, Grundberg called on the international community to continue providing diplomatic, financial, and humanitarian support to Yemen. He also urged the Yemeni parties to strengthen dialogue and national reconciliation to move forward towards a sustainable peace process.
