ABYAN, Feb. 19 (YPA) – Abyan tribes continued on Wednesday to block the international road in the Al-Ain area for the fourth consecutive day, which portends an imminent gas crisis in the city of Aden, controlled by the Saudi-led coalition.
Local sources in Abyan province confirmed that tribal militants are holding dozens of gas tankers heading to Aden in protest against the suspension of treatment of their sons recruited in the factions by the Salafi leader in the UAE-funded “Al-Amaliqa” brigades, “Nizar Al-Wajeeh.”
The sources indicated that “Al-Wajeeh” stopped the treatment dues for recruits from Abyan in particular and imprisoned others after their protests in the middle of last year.
The continued detention of the tankers will exacerbate the gas crisis in Aden, which relies on gas coming from Marib province.
The escalation of the tribesmen in the Al Ain region comes with the continuation of popular protests and demonstrations in Aden and the rest of the provinces under the control of the coalition due to the economic crisis, rising prices, and the continued collapse of the local currency against foreign currencies.
