ADEN, Feb. 16 (YPA) – Residents of the city of Aden, which is under the control of the Saudi-led coalition, continued on Sunday to organize their protests for the third week in a row in protest against the economic collapse and deterioration of services that are sweeping the city and the southern provinces.
On Sunday, hundreds of citizens took to the streets in the areas of Khormaksar and Mualla, carrying banners reflecting their dissatisfaction with the deterioration of living conditions and rising prices, with angry demands calling for the departure of the coalition and its affiliated government.
Despite the arrest campaign that targeted participants in the past days, protest marches set off from the airport road in Khormaksar to the headquarters of the local authorities affiliated with the coalition in Mualla, without any signs of tangible solutions from the pro-coalition government.
The protesters expressed their rejection of corruption and the deterioration of basic services such as electricity and water through banners and chants that demanded the departure of the coalition and the accountability of the corrupt. They directed direct criticism at the governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, accusing him of looting public revenues in favor of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The demonstrators stated that their protests will continue and escalate until their legitimate demands are met, most notably improving the standard of living and holding those responsible for corruption accountable.
These popular protests come amid a stifling living crisis that the city is suffering from, coinciding with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, amid severe inflation and a sharp decline in the value of the local currency.
It is noteworthy that Aden has been suffering for years from a continuous deterioration in basic services, in addition to an unprecedented rise in the prices of basic commodities, which prompted thousands to take to the streets to express their anger and rejection of the worsening reality.
