ADEN, Feb. 16 (YPA) – Dozens of taxi drivers in Aden city, in southern Yemen, organized on Sunday a protest in front of the Public Prosecution Office in Khormaksar to denounce the levies imposed on them by transport unions and officials loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) without legal justification.
The drivers stressed that these fees burden them in light of the difficult living conditions and the continuous rise in prices.
The protesters raised demands to hold accountable the parties that impose these levies and confirmed their continuation of peaceful protest until their demands are met.
They also called on the Public Prosecution Office and local authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to intervene quickly to stop these practices and to establish clear mechanisms to regulate transportation in a way that guarantees their rights and protects them from exploitation.
