RAMALLAH, Feb. 15 (YPA) – The city of Ramallah, north of the occupied West Bank, witnessed the arrival of Palestinian prisoners released as part of the sixth batch of the prisoner exchange deal this afternoon.
Media reports indicated that buses carrying the released prisoners arrived in the city.
The batch included nine prisoners with life sentences who arrived in Ramallah, while three other prisoners with similar sentences were transferred to the city of Jerusalem (Al-Quds), according to the sources.
According to the Prisoners and Freed Prisoners Affairs Authority and the Prisoners Club, this batch includes a total of 36 prisoners sentenced to life, in addition to 333 detainees from the Gaza Strip who were arrested during the last Israeli aggression on the Strip starting on October 7, 2023.
The release included 29 prisoners from the West Bank, seven prisoners from occupied Al-Quds and its suburbs, while 24 others were exiled outside the country.
On the ground, the occupation forces turned the Ofer prison area into a closed military zone, where they prevented the families of the detainees from gathering and fired live bullets and tear gas canisters to disperse them.
In contrast, hundreds of citizens and families of prisoners gathered since the morning hours in front of the Ramallah Cultural Palace and the Mahmoud Darwish Museum Square to welcome the released prisoners coming from Ofer prison, carrying Palestinian flags in a scene full of solidarity and joy.
In a related context, the Palestinian resistance handed over three Israeli prisoners today, within the twenty-eighth day of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, as part of the first phase of the ongoing prisoner exchange process.
