Israeli occupation closes UNRWA offices in Jerusalem

OCCUPIEDPALESTINE, Jan. 30 (YPA) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said it was forced to move its employees from Jerusalem after the Israeli occupation decided to close its offices in the city.

According to the official website of UNRWA, the decision stipulates that UNRWA is prohibited from operating offices, providing services, or carrying out any activities, directly or indirectly, within the territories controlled by the entity.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of the occupying entity rejected a petition submitted by human rights groups to obtain a temporary order to postpone the implementation of decisions that limit UNRWA operations in the occupied territories.

Two human rights groups, Adalah and Gisha, said the laws violate basic human rights and Israel’s duties as an occupying power, warning of dire humanitarian consequences.

The Israeli occupation’s decision to ban UNRWA’s work is scheduled to come into effect today.
