Aden witnesses armed clashes, unprecedented military deployment

ADEN, Jan. 13 (YPA) – Intense clashes erupted between factions linked to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden, southern Yemen.

Local media reported that the confrontations occurred on Sunday in the Workers Island area, involving forces led by commander Samed Sanah and another group referred to as “Emergency,” headed by Muhammad Hussein Al-Khaili in Khor Maksar. Both light and medium-caliber weapons were reportedly used during the skirmishes.

According to sources, the clashes stemmed from disputes among STC leaders over control of land and resources, further highlighting Aden’s ongoing security instability.

Simultaneously, eyewitness accounts described a significant military buildup by STC forces in Khor Maksar, transforming the area into what appeared to be a sprawling military encampment reaching the parade square vicinity. This escalation coincides with preparations for a planned protest demonstration titled “Change and Taking Rights.”

On the other hand, the STC is continuing steps to overthrow the “Presidential Leadership Council” and the government backed by the Saudi-led coalition by mobilizing civil components to protest the deteriorating economic conditions and poor services in Aden.
