ADEN, Jan. 12 (YPA) – The city of Aden, which is under the control of the coalition, witnessed a complete collapse in the electricity sector, as 11 power stations were completely out of service, leading to power outages for more than 20 hours a day.
Local sources confirmed that this unprecedented outage was caused by the depletion of fuel stocks at stations, which led to a complete paralysis of basic services and a sharp deterioration in citizens’ living conditions.
The sources explained that the stopped stations represent a production capacity of up to 219 megawatts, while six stations are still operating with a total capacity not exceeding 65 megawatts, which is not enough to meet the city’s increasing needs for the current week.
This escalating crisis comes amidst widespread popular anger, as activists have called for organising an angry million-man demonstration next Tuesday to demand the departure of the coalition and its affiliated government, and to work on finding radical solutions to the electricity crisis and other crises suffered by the people of Aden and the rest of the southern governorates, especially the interruption of salaries due to the economic collapse.
