TAIZ, Jan. 09 (YPA) – Armed groups belonging to factions affiliated with the Islah Party loyal to the Saudi-led coalition blocked roads in the city of Taiz on Thursday.
Local sources reported that elements of the so-called “22nd Mika Brigade” rebelled and began blocking the road in front of the brigade’s headquarters, demanding the payment of their salaries that have been suspended since last October.
The sources added that the gunmen prevented the passage of vehicles by placing stones and damaged tires in the streets, which caused a state of chaos and panic among passersby and residents of the surrounding areas.
It is noteworthy that the pro-coalition government has failed since the middle of last year to pay the salaries of teachers and some loyal factions on its lists. It also faced difficulties in importing fuel shipments for the disabled power plants in the provinces of Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Shabwa, which led to angry protests denouncing the deterioration of living and humanitarian conditions.
