SOCOTRA, Dec. 29 (YPA) – The Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Islah Party distributed money to the sheikhs of the Yemeni Socotra Archipelago, east of the Gulf of Aden, under the name of “gratuity”.
Local sources said that Issa bin Yaqout, one of senior sheikhs in Socotra, affiliated with Islah, who was ousted from his tribal position by the UAE, announced the disbursement of a special cash bonus to the sheikhs and dignitaries of the archipelago with the aim of strengthening community solidarity.
The sources explained that the large sums of money being distributed came also to implement some development service projects in some areas.
Bin Yaqout’s office called on the sheikhs and dignitaries of Socotra to strengthen unity and work honestly to serve the community, away from imposing agendas and conflicts that aims to target the interests of the people of Socotra, in reference to the Emirati agendas.
The office stressed the need to preserve the dignity of the Socotra community, which is being subjected to external erosion amid attempts to exploit its local resources and weaken the social fabric through discriminatory policies.
It called on Socotra people to preserve the sovereignty and unity of the archipelago away from any external interference that seeks to destabilize its security and stability.
Bin Yaqout has returned to the island in the middle of this month after the UAE announced, through the so-called “National Council of the People of the Socotra Archipelago.
