Saudi forces close headquarters of STC’s trade union federation in Aden

ADEN, Aug. 25 (YPA) – Saudi-backed forces on Tuesday forcibly closed the headquarters of the Trade Union Federation affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden, according to trade union and human rights sources.

The move highlights escalating efforts to remove the current leadership and hand over control to figures loyal to “Presidential Leadership Council’s” Chairman, Rashad al-Alimi.

Sources reported that Riyadh-backed authorities are attempting to seize control of the federation’s management in response to its role in organizing labor protests demanding legitimate rights and opposing Saudi influence in Aden and other southern Yemeni governorates.

Sources added that the STC-aligned leadership had been instrumental in the partial civil disobedience campaign recently observed in Aden. They warned that the measures taken by Riyadh-backed authorities represent a dangerous escalation that risks pushing the situation in the city toward a wider conflict.

The incident follows a raid on Monday by Saudi-backed forces on the STC branch headquarters in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Governorate, where forces reportedly ransacked the premises and seized documents, files, and council emblems.
