Sanaa International Airport resumes flights after Zionist airstrikes

SANAA, Dec. 27 (YPA) -Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works and Chairman of the Civil Aviation and Meteorology Authority, Yahya Al-Sayani, announced on Friday, that operations at Sanaa International Airport have resumed, including civilian flights to Jordan and flights for the United Nations and humanitarian organizations in Yemen, following a direct bombing  by Israeli aggression forces

Al-Siyani explained in a press conference held at Sanaa Airport today that this morning, a flight of Yemeni Airways took off from Sanaa Airport to Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan as scheduled, in compliance with the requirements and standards applicable at international airports.

He also stated that Israeli airstrikes hit Sanaa Airport yesterday as a Yemenia Airways flight was coming from Jordan, simultaneously with the preparations for the departure of a UN flight to carry WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works confirmed that the Israeli attack on Sanaa Airport was direct and multiple, aimed at creating panic among the general public, particularly those at the airport and those arriving.

He pointed out that the Israeli aggression specifically targeted the control tower, the departure hall, and the airport’s navigational equipment.

According to Al-Sayani, the situation was managed according to a pre-prepared emergency plan, which involved evacuating citizens and passengers, organizing luggage for arriving passengers and UN travelers, and ensuring the airport was operational within twelve hours, both technically and professionally.

Al-Sayani mentioned that the Israeli aggression on Sanaa International Airport resulted in the martyrdom of four citizens and over 20 injuries among airport workers, citizens, and travelers.

He considered the Israeli attack on Sanaa Airport as a violation of international agreements and conventions, particularly the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) conventions, which criminalize the targeting of civilian and humanitarian facilities that provide services to people.

He further stated, “the aim of the Zionist aggression on Sana’a Airport is to disrupt air traffic at the airport that serves more than 70% of the Yemeni people.”

The Deputy Minister of Transport reiterated the readiness of Sanaa International Airport to continue operating civilian flights smoothly and with high professionalism.

For his part, the Director of Sanaa International Airport, Khaled Al-Shayef, pointed out that an emergency plan was implemented and passengers were evacuated in record time, which helped reduce the number of casualties considering the scale of the direct bombing of the airport at a time when the terminals were crowded with travelers.

He noted that, following the directives of the Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, the airport’s technical readiness was restored to receive civilian flights.

He mentioned that the direct attack on the airport caused material losses due to the bombing of  the control tower, terminal buildings, and some navigational equipment, as well as fatalities, primarily among passengers and those accompanying them.

The Director of Sanaa Airport emphasized that the operation of civilian flights on schedule and the resumption of work at the airport today is in line with the directives of the revolutionary and political leadership, confirming the continued operation of civilian flights to Jordan and UN flights according to the daily flight schedule.
