Hamas condemns Paraguay’s decision to re-open embassy in Al-Quds city

GAZA, Dec. 14 (YPA) – Hamas movement strongly condemned Paraguay’s re-open of embassy to the occupied city of Al-Quds.

The movement said in a statement that the decision of the President of the Republic of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, to re-open his country’s embassy to the Israeli occupation to the occupied city of al-Quds represents a blatant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people.

The statement called on the Paraguayan government to reverse this decision, side with the values of justice and humanity, and support the rights of the Palestinian people who are facing genocidal war and Judaization of the land and holy sites, most notably Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Paraguay opened its embassy in Al-Quds city for the first time in May 2017, but later closed and reopened it in Tel Aviv based on a decision by its former Foreign Minister Luis Castiglioni in September 2018, who justified the move as aiming to support efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East.

In 2018, the United States was the first to move its embassy to al-Quds, followed by countries such as Guatemala, Kosovo and Honduras.
