Aden refinery employees begin civil disobedience next Monday
ADEN, Dec. 11 (YPA) – Aden refinery employees and workers on Wednesday announced a move towards civil disobedience, starting next Monday, December 16.
The workers confirmed their support for the decisions of the Union of Trade Unions affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Aden to go on a general strike since last Monday and implement civil disobedience next Monday.
During a protest vigil, the workers demanded that the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition restructure wages in line with the Yemeni riyal’s exchange rate against foreign currencies, and work to reform the economic conditions that have affected their living conditions.
They explained that civil disobedience will be part of the escalation steps in protest against the continued delay in paying salaries for the third consecutive month, noting that the high prices made them unable to provide the most basic food needs for their families.
The protests and strikes in Aden, including education and health sectors, continue due to the pro-coalition government’s inability to pay financial dues since last October, amid demands to raise wages for all employees.
