Coalition imposes new taxes on Aden restaurants

ADEN, Dec. 04 (YPA) – The Saudi-led coalition-backed local authorities imposed new taxes on food in the city of Aden, southern Yemen.

Media outlets affirmed that the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council (STC) authorities imposed YR200 restaurant tax on top of the price of lunch.

The sources explained that these huge amounts that added to the value of meals would reach billions of riyals under the pretext of tourism fees, which do not go to the treasury of the Yemen’s Central Bank branch in Aden.

“The authorities are tightening the noose on the citizens’ living conditions,” the sources added. “They are collecting the remaining fees from the restaurants’ owners and other shops without knowing who is benefiting from the huge sums of money.”
