MARIB, Nov. 30 (YPA) – Violent clashes broke out between the Al-Maili and Al-Damashqa tribes in the Al-Wadi district east of Marib city, involving various types of medium and heavy weapons, continuing into the early hours of Friday.
Informed sources reported that the clashes erupted between armed members of the Al-Maili tribe and others from the Al-Damashqa tribe after members of the latter assassinated Sheikh Hamad Muhammad Maili Al-Obaidi on Thursday in Wadi Ubaidah.
The sources confirmed that the fighters from both tribes exchanged artillery fire, with the clashes taking place between the areas of Al-Mardaa and Al-Hadba, causing damage to civilian homes, although no human casualties were reported.
It was also mentioned that tribal mediators from Marib’s sheikhs attempted late at night to halt the fighting between the two tribes, amid accusations that leaders loyal to the Saudi-led coalition were fueling the conflict to serve their own agendas, aiming to maintain control over the oil and gas resources in the Safer area.
The sources further noted that the Al-Maili tribe received military aid from certain leaders of the UAE-backed factions overseen by “Saghir bin Aziz” in Marib.
The pro-coalition leaders are bolstering the tribes loyal to them in opposition to other tribes that resist their presence and reject the exploitation of oil and gas revenues without any investment in sustainable development, according to the sources.
