Two Yemeni alabaster statues ended up in Antiquities Museum in America

SANAA, Nov. 23 (YPA) – Yemeni antiquities expert Abdullah Mohsen has revealed two alabaster statues from Yemeni antiquities smuggled abroad.

Mohsen said on his Facebook page, “In the year 1930, Cowell Jones acquired a number of antiquities from Yemen, of which he sold 104 antiques, including cushion inscriptions, statues, bronzes, ornaments, and antique agate necklaces, to the Pennsylvania Museum in the United States.

The Yemeni expert explained that the first is the head of a man made of alabaster, with an engraved beard and mustache, engraved eyes and eyebrows, and dyed pupils, with the top of the head cut flat.

The second is an alabaster man’s head cut flat at the top, with what looks like a triangular mask, the design lines still visible. The eyes and eyebrows are engraved, the nostril is visible and engraved, and the neck is long, he added.
