Spain-Palestine summit held in Madrid to strengthen cooperation

MADRID, Nov. 21 (YPA) – Spain held a government summit with Palestine in the capital, Madrid, the first since Spain recognized the Palestinian state on May 28.

Anadolu Agency correspondent said the summit, which was chaired by the Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and his Palestinian counterpart, Mohammed Mustafa, was held at the Moncloa Palace.

For the first time, the governmental summit has been held between a European Union country and Palestine, which highlights the diplomatic message of the summit more than its content, especially in light of the genocidal war being committed by Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories.

This step aimed at strengthening the cooperation among the two sides in the fields of work and education, within the framework of the summit, which did not hold a press conference.

Last May, Spain, Norway and Ireland announced their official recognition of the State of Palestine, followed by Slovenia and Armenia in June, bringing the number of countries that recognize Palestine to 149 out of 193 member states of the United Nations.
