Container ship bound for Israel blocked from docking at Spanish Port

WORLD, Nov. 18 (YPA) – The Danish company Maersk announced on Saturday that “one of its container ships was prevented from entering the Spanish port of Algeciras” and denied that it was carrying weapons for Israel.

Maersk said in a statement: “The cargo to be transhipped through the port does not include any military weapons or ammunition.”

This decision comes amid Spain’s increasingly strict stance regarding arms dealings directed at Israel, following growing European criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The move is part of a series of measures adopted by the Spanish government since it recognized Palestine in May of this year.  Along with countries like Ireland and Norway, Spain has halted arms sales to Israel and has prevented ships carrying military-related shipments from docking at its ports.
