SOCOTRA, Nov. 03 (YPA) – UAE’s representative in the Yemeni Socotra Archipelago, Khalfan Al Mazrouei, has seized a large part of the land belonging to the airport on the Island.
Sources familier with the matter said that Al Mazrouei had seized a plot of land from Socotra Airport for his own personal benefit through brokers of contractor Omar Al Zubaidi.
The sources explained that several excavations were established the partitions to build concrete columns to separate the land from Socotra Airport from the northeastern coastal side near the airport runway.
The UAE has continue its conspiracies to control Socotra Island, exploiting the complicity of the local authority affiliated with the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council on the island, and the absence and silence of the coalition-backed government and the so-called Presidential Leadership Council that Riyadh formed in April 2022.
In the latest violations of the Emirati presence in the Yemeni archipelago, local sources revealed Emirati efforts to strengthen control over Socotra International Airport, by purchasing adjacent lands and seizing parts of the airport’s lands as private property.
The sources explained that a Emirates-affiliated committee has seized parts of the Socotra airport lands and is working to take over them as private property.
