SANAA, Oct. 29 (YPA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries based in Sanaa condemned the arbitrary measures taken by Saudi-led coalition forces against fishermen in Mahra province, eastern Yemen.
The ministry announced in a press release that it had received reports from fishermen in Al-Mahra about their inability to fish during the fishing season due to an arbitrary ban imposed by the so-called pro-coalition Ministry of Interior, the pro-coalition governor of Al-Mahra, the governor’s deputy, and the Fisheries Office in the Sayhut district.
The ministry considered this decision a flagrant violation of the fishermen’s rights and a threat to their lives, as it affects their livelihood.
It emphasized that Mahra fishermen rely on fishing, especially during the fishing season, as a primary source of income for their families, and that preventing them from working will exacerbate their suffering.
The ministry urged the immediate repeal of this arbitrary ban and called for fishermen to be permitted to resume their activities. It also demanded an investigation into the violation and accountability for those responsible.
It also expressed its support for the fishermen of Mahra and their rightful demands.
