Al-Qaeda assassinates commander in Shabwa
SHABWA, Oct. 15 (YPA) – Al-Qaeda terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the assassination of a military leader in the UAE-backed “Shabwa Defense” factions in the past hours.
The organization confirmed on Tuesday in a statement circulated by coalition-affiliated media outlets that it was able to assassinate the so-called “Chief of Staff of the First Shabwa Defense Brigade,” Ahmed Mohsen Al-Suleimani, with an explosive device in Al-Masina’a area, Al-Saed district, south of the city of Ataq, the center of Shabwa province.
The statement indicated that the assassination of Suleimani came after a failed assassination attempt during the past months.
The organization’s statement said that the leader, Suleimani, had been at the top of the wanted list for 16 months.
Al-Qaeda was active in the Al-Masina’a area of the district after the “Shabwa Defense” expelled the leaders and forces of the so called “Ataq Axis” and the Special Security in a fierce confrontation in the center of Ataq during August 2022.
