Yemen strikes push “Eilat” port into bankruptcy

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Oct. 13 (YPA) – The “World Cargo News” website has confirmed that the Israeli port of Eilat (Umm al-Rashrash) had declared bankruptcy due to an 85% decline in its activity as a result of attacks by the Yemeni armed forces affiliated with the Sanaa government on ships linked to the Israeli occupation in the Red Sea.

The report of the website specialized in maritime transport and shipping affairs indicated that the economic impact of the Yemeni strikes on ships linked to Israel in the Red Sea waters led to an 85% decrease in volumes, which prompted the port to request financial assistance from the Israeli government.

“Despite a brief spike in the fourth quarter of 2022, the port has seen no activity or revenue for eight months, CEO Gideon Goldbert told the Knesset Economic Affairs Committee on July 7,” the website added.

The port of Eilat is considered one of the most important ports that the Israeli occupation relies on to obtain goods coming from the East via the Red Sea. It mainly deals with bulk cargo, potash, and car imports, but attacks by the Yemeni armed forces have greatly affected Israeli trade.

It is worth noting that the Yemeni armed forces target cargo ships linked to the Israeli occupation with missiles and drones in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean. Sanaa forces also target Tel Aviv and a number of Zionist areas and ports in occupied Palestine in solidarity with Gaza, which has been suffering for more than a year under Israeli aggression and war of extermination.
