OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Oct, 11 (YPA) – Israeli occupation authorities seized a land on which UNRWA’s headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, east of Jerusalem, on Thursday, to build housing for illegal settlers.
According to information released today, the UNRWA headquarters are set to be converted into 1,440 housing units.
The Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee approved a bill aimed at severing ties with UNRWA, which is expected to be put to a final vote next week.
This legislation is part of a series of laws that several Knesset members are seeking to implement to undermine the agency’s activities.
The occupation authorities had issued a request for UNRWA to vacate its headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah, claiming there was “no approval from the Israel Land Authority.”
They also imposed financial penalties on the agency, requiring it to pay substantial amounts in overdue rent for its use of the land.
