Media activist reveals truth about sovereignty over Socotra

SOCOTRA, Oct. 05 (YPA) – A sovereignty that the coalition-backed Aden government claimed to take over Socotra province, located east of the Gulf of Aden, is “just a fictitious play to pass other political interests.”

Media activist Abdul Jabbar bin Ahmed Al-Soqtri confirmed that the sovereignty that the government in Socotra are promoting as a loose idea does not reflect the tragic reality that the island’s residents are suffering from, indicating that the island’s people are the ones paying the price.

He affirmed that the government’s slogans aimed at serving the political interests of the conflicting parties.

“Citizens in Socotra lives under the burden of exorbitant travel costs exceeding $300, amid humiliating conditions of exploitation in weights and prices at the airports of Aden and Mukalla,” Al-Soqtri said.

He added, “The concept of sovereignty is just a political game that is renewed with every crisis, while the citizen is left a victim of neglect and ignorance.”
