ADEN, Sept. 16 (YPA) -The committee overseeing the case of Naif Al-Qahbi, who has been missing in prisons run by Saudi-led coalition’s factions, released on Monday a statement providing an update on recent developments regarding the case.
The committee stated that it “faced obstacles from some relevant authorities that expressed their inability to handle the case file and investigate it, including the Criminal Investigation Department and the Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Office in Aden.”
The statement highlighted that the committee has assumed responsibility for Naif Al-Qahbi’s case, gathering key evidence and testimonies despite the difficulties posed by his eight-year disappearance amid the ongoing crisis in Aden and the southern governorates.
The committee confirmed that it had submitted Naif Al-Qahbi’s case file to all pertinent authorities, including security, military, local, political, judicial, and both local and international human rights organizations, and the prosecutor general in Aden being a key recipient.
The committee indicated that it would continue to consult with the notable figures and people of Yafi regarding Naif Al-Qahbi’s case until his fate is revealed.
It is worth noting that Naif Al-Qahbi was kidnapped in November 2016 by factions affiliated with the UAE.
The case of “Al-Qahbi” is one of thousands of cases of forcibly disappeared individuals in coalition-affiliated prisons in southern Yemen.
Human rights activists reported on Sunday that there has been a noticeable increase in the abduction of citizens, despite the popular protests triggered by the abduction of Major Ali Ashal Al-Jaadani in July by factions affiliated with the UAE.
