UN reiterates its call for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

GENEVA, Sept. 13 (YPA) – The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, condemned the Israeli occupation’s bombing of a school sheltering displaced persons in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, which killed 18 Palestinians, including children and women, as well as six UNRWA staff members.

A statement issued by the UN spokesperson noted that this incident raises the number of UNRWA staff killed in this conflict to 220.

“This incident must be independently and thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability,” the statement read.

The continued lack of effective protection for civilians in Gaza is unconscionable, according to the statement.  “Civilians and the infrastructure they rely on must be protected and the essential needs of civilians met.”

The statement highlighted the urgent need for an end to the “horrific violence”.
