ADEN, Sept. 12 (YPA) – The date for the restructuring of the Presidential Leadership Council that was formed in Riyadh in April 2022 may be started, in the city of Aden, Media outlets loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) revealed on Wednesday.
Al-Amana newspaper, which is close to the STC, confirmed that the “Leadership Council” is witnessing major differences between its members.
The newspaper expected that the Presidential council would be restructured after four of its leaders attended the UN General Assembly meeting, including the council’s president, Rashad Al-Alimi, and his deputy, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, who also heads the STC.
In a related context, political sources explained that the US envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, summoned Al-Alimi and Al-Zubaidi after the differences between them reached a dead end, following Lenderking’s unilateral summoning of the “Presidential Council” member, Faraj Al-Bahsani, to Washington at the beginning of this month.
The sources stated that the United States is making political moves to oust Al-Zubaidi from the Leadership Council after his ouster from the leadership of the security factions in Aden and assigning its leadership to the Salafi leader loyal to Abu Dhabi, Abu Zar’ah Al-Mahrami, after two meetings held by the American ambassador to the coalition-backed Aden government, “Steven Fagin,” with Al-Zubaidi and Al-Mahrami in the Emirati capital, Abu Dhabi, at the end of last August.
The sources reported that Ambassador Fagin is the one supervising the restructuring of the “Leadership Council” amid severe disagreements among the members regarding the proposals submitted by the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
