First STC attack on Ashal’s million-man demonstration in Zinjibar foiled

ADEN, Sept. 07 (YPA) – Protesters demanding the release of detainees from secret prisons in southern Yemen successfully thwarted an attempted attack by elements affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) on their demonstration in the city of Zinjibar.

They responded on social media to rumors spread by the STC, today’s afternoon regarding the alleged withdrawal of some tribal leaders, including the Al-Jaadani tribes, from the million-man demonstration.

They considered these rumors as an attempt to reduce participation of people from the southern governorates in the protest.

Participants in the Ashal’s million-man demonstration mocked the malicious campaigns and posted video recordings from the heart of the massive crowd in Zinjibar, amid widespread anger demanding the release of the detainees.

They noted that the STC’s efforts to spread rumors and misinformation on social media clearly indicate the fear and psychological distress experienced by its leaders in response to the extraordinary protest by the people of the south.

Tens of thousands of people from Aden, Lahij, Shabwa, and Yafa, including families and relatives of the detained and forcibly disappeared, gathered in Zinjibar to demand the disclosure of their fate and their release from the prisons in Aden.

This comes after the suppression of the Ashal million-man demonstration in Al-Arudh Square, Aden, earlier in August, where live ammunition was used to prevent participants from accessing the square.

Additionally, thousands of people arriving from Abyan and Shabwa were detained at the eastern entrance of Aden, at the Al-Aalam checkpoint.

The Ashal’s million-man demonstration in the Al-Arudh Square in Aden earlier in August faced suppression with live ammunition, preventing participants from reaching the square and detaining thousands coming from Abyan and Shabwa at the eastern entrance of Aden at the Al-Aalam checkpoint.
