Yemen celebrates World Population Day

SANAA, July 17 (YPA) – The General Secretariat of the National Population Council in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), on Tuesday organized a ceremony in Sanaa on the World Population Day.

“This ceremony represents a defiance message and steadfastness in the face of the aggression,” said Dr. Taha al-Mutwakel, minister of the public health and population, in his speech he delivered during the ceremony.

The minster pointed out that Yemen celebrates the World Population Day, while the number of people killed by Saudi-led coalition amounted more than 35,000 people, including 2500 children and 3000 women.

Dr. al-Mutwakil continued, “Motherhood and childhood were killed in Yemen by the Saudi-American aggression.”

The coalition has destroyed more than 423 health facilities totally and partially, targeted medics and ambulances and caused the largest health disaster the world has never seen, he added.

He pointed out that the siege and the closure of airports and ports prevented the entry of reproductive health medicines and the lack of diesel contributed to the disruption of health facilities, which prevented mothers from having a safe birth.

The health minister called on the state to pay attention to the sustainable development and to increase resources in line with the increase of the expected population.

He confirmed his ministry’s cooperation with the international organizations in achieving the third millennium goals as well as in developing and implementing the reproductive health programs.
