Protesters block roads in Tarim city

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 26 (YPA) – The first signs of widespread public outrage have erupted in the city of Tarim in Hadramout Governorate, eastern Yemen, due to deteriorating living conditions and the collapse of basic services.

On Sunday evening, dozens of citizens took to the streets in a furious protest, chanting  slogans against the government and local authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, which have ignored their demands.

Protesters blocked roads and burned tires as a part of protest to denounce the rising prices affecting their livelihoods and the lack of services.

They called on local authorities to provide electricity, which has severely affected their lives due to continuous power outages following the suspension of the “Petromasila” diesel processing plant.

They also accused pro-coalition local authorities of corruption and favoritism.

They emphasized the importance of securing a decent standard of living funded by oil revenues to address the poverty and hunger affecting the residents of Hadramout districts.

It is worth noting that pro-coalition coalition local authorities have failed to find any effective solutions to the recurring electricity outages and to improve the living conditions of teachers, who have declared a comprehensive strike in the governorate’s schools.
