Pro-coalition “Presidential Leadership Council’ witnesses internal rift

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 23 (YPA) – The Presidential Leadership Council, established by the Saudi-led coalition and headed by Rashad Al-Alimi, is witnessing a major internal rift after the disagreements between its head and members came to light.

This major dispute comes after Al-Alimi directed the formation of a presidential committee to solve the problems of Hadramout province, which is witnessing great tension against the backdrop of the tribal alliance’s control over the oil plateau.

Al-Alimi’s directive upset the people of Hadramout, including the member of the Presidential Council, Faraj Al-Bahsani, who criticized Al-Alimi’s failure and accused him of diluting Hadramout’s issues.

Al-Bahsani said in a post on the X platform: “There is no point or benefit in forming committees to solve Hadramout’s problems in this way.”

He added: “The solution lies in making direct decisions to meet Hadramout’s demands or calling for an emergency meeting of members of the Presidential Leadership Council to discuss the crisis and confront it seriously and firmly.”

Activists and politicians mocked the differences within the Presidential Council members that came to the surface for the first time after they were sparked by one of its members, whom they described as brave.

Hadramout province has been witnessing an angry popular movement due to the marginalization, exclusion, neglect, and deprivation of the province of the most basic services, such as electricity and water, despite the province’s great oil and fish wealth.

On Wednesday, dozens of Mukalla residents carried out angry protests, during which the protesters cut the main lines and burned tires in the streets as a result of the deteriorating electricity conditions, after the outage ranged from 8 to 10 continuous hours per day.
