BEIRUT, Aug. 18 (YPA) – Osama Hamdan, a leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, confirmed that there is no genuine intention from the Biden administration to implement a ceasefire in Gaza, pointing to a joint effort between Washington and Tel Aviv to gain more time in order to commit further massacres.
Hamdan stated that the current American proposals “do not include a withdrawal from Gaza or even a ceasefire.”
He noted that the movement is still negotiating the “criteria” and that discussions have not yet addressed the names of the prisoners.
He added, “A ceasefire must be guaranteed with clear criteria.”
Yesterday, US officials confirmed to Axios that Biden aims to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and secure the release of prisoners by the end of next week.
In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office reported on Saturday that the Israeli negotiation team expressed a state of “cautious optimism” regarding the potential progress on a prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas.
Meanwhile, a senior Egyptian source confirmed on Thursday that the Egyptian security delegation involved in the Doha negotiations is “making intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.”
It is worth noting that Hamdan had announced before the latest round of negotiations in Doha that Hamas had lost confidence in Washington’s ability to mediate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
