STC declares war on movements of Hadramout tribes

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 08 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has threatened to take control of the valley districts in Hadramout province in eastern Yemen.

This comes at a time when the head of the Saudi-affiliated “Hadramout Tribal Alliance,” Amr bin Habrish, seeks to control the oil fields.

The military leader and head of the so-called “Transitional Executive Authority” in Hadramout, Saeed Al-Mohammadi, said in press statements yesterday, Wednesday, that “the leaders and members of the STC and all segments of society in the province are ready to engage in any effort that places the liberation of Hadramout Valley and desert at the top of its priorities.”

Al-Mohammadi described the movements of the Hadramout tribesmen as stirring up strife and division within the ranks of the province and making the decision alone and claiming to represent it under what he called slogans that “on the surface is mercy and on the inside is torment,” according to him.

He threatened the movements of the tribes, led by the sheikhs of Hadramout, to confront their movements and bring down what they aspire to, pointing out that the STC is committed to extracting rights from Hadramout and its people, defending the factions of the “Hadrami elite” loyal to the UAE in the coastal districts, and expanding their reach to include all of Hadramout.

In a statement last week, the Hadramout tribes asked the “Presidential Leadership Council” loyal to the Saudi-led coalition to recognize their right and activate their role in the effective partnership, represented by the “Hadramout Inclusive Conference,” like other parties and components, in reference to the STC.
