Gunmen storm branches of six banks in Marib

MARIB, July 14 (YPA) – Gunmen from factions loyal to the Saudi-led coalition stormed on Sunday six bank branches in the city of Marib, which is controlled by the Islah Party-affiliated authorities.

Local sources said, “A number of banks in Marib announced the closure of their doors in protest against the disastrous measures taken by the Central Bank of Aden, which is controlled by the coalition, to withdraw their licenses during the past days.”

The sources added that the Islah Party authorities in the city of Marib sent a military campaign to the branches of those banks in the city and forced them to reopen their doors by force of arms.

The campaign targeted the branches of banks whose main centers are based in the capital, Sanaa, which were included in the Bank of Aden’s decision to not deal with them in light of the Saudi-American economic escalation.

Economic observers considered this action that targeted the banks’ branches in Marib and Taiz cities an unprecedented step that threatens the banking sector in Yemen after the Bank of Aden issued a decision to withdraw its licenses.
