Left-Wing Parties wins French parliamentary elections

WORLD, July 08 (YPA) – The leftist bloc Nouveau Front populaire (NFP), won the parliamentary elections in France held on Sunday, securing 182 seats in the country’s National Assembly.

According to final data released by the French Ministry of the Interior, President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance came in second place with 168 seats in the National Assembly.

In third place was the right-wing National Rally party led by Marine Le Pen, which obtained 143 seats in parliament, followed by the Republicans party in fourth place with 45 seats.

It’s worth noting that the far-right saw a decline in the final round, dropping to third place after leading in the first round of the early parliamentary elections in France.

The National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen and her allies, had received 33.1% of the votes, followed by the La Nouvelle Front Populaire alliance led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon in second place with 28%, while President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance obtained 20% of the votes.

The country experienced highly tense campaign atmospheres since the beginning, marked by insults, physical assaults on candidates and individuals posting racist and anti-Semitic messages and stickers.

Macron had announced a surprise dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9 and called for early parliamentary elections after his coalition’s failure in the European elections.
