UN slams Israeli occupation’s use of dogs to attack Palestinian detainees

NEW YORK, June 27 (YPA) – Spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Jeremy Lawrence, criticized on Thursday the Israeli occupation’s use of dogs to attack Palestinian detainees.

“Such actions post serious violations of Israel’s obligations regarding persons protected under the law of occupation,” Lawrence said.

He explained that inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment “is strictly prohibited under international human rights law, with regard to the rights of the individual to life and health,” and Israel has also violated this order.

“The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) condemns the continuing and flagrant violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law binding on Israel as the occupying power in the occupied West Bank,” Lawrence added.
