UAE, Saudi Arabi compete to choose bin Daghr’s successor

SANAA, July 15 (YPA) –Emirati-Saudi intensive consultations are being held with the resigned president Hadi to choose a southern figure to succeed Ahmed bin Daghr as prime minister, a southern political source told Yemen Press Agency.

Each of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia is trying to impose the personality it sees fit to implement its agenda and its political and military interests during the coming phase in Yemen.

There are underway consultations between Hadi and the UAE forces according to proposals presented by the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, and under the supervision of the peace-sponsoring countries in Yemen, according to the source.

Saudi Arabia via Hadi is trying to impose a personality from Islah Party, which is strongly rejected by the UAE that wants to impose the former prime minister, Khaled Bahah.

Hadi put the name of Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak in the face of the UAE, arguing that the appointment of Bahah will deepen the rift between the southern factions, according to the source.
He added that there are new names nominated to head Hadi’s government, which is sinking in corruption.

This comes within the so-called proposals of the UN envoy to Yemen, who sees that the change of bin Daghr’s government will lead to political rapprochement between the Yemeni parties.
