UNRWA: Overcrowded shelters in Gaza fuel spread of diseases

GAZA, May 31 (YPA) – The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned on Friday that the overcrowding and poor sanitation in Gaza’s refugee camps are advancing the spread of infectious diseases.

In a statement released earlier Friday on X, the UNRWA emphasized the urgent need for improved healthcare services.

“Our teams continue to provide essential medical care to vulnerable individuals, including children and the elderly,” the agency said.

The agency reported earlier that around one million displaced persons have fled Rafah over the past three weeks.

It added, “This happened with no safe place to go amidst the bombardment, shortage of food and water, and piles of waste,” noting that providing assistance and protection has become almost impossible in the Gaza Strip.
