Citizens arrested for protesting power outage in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, May 10 (YPA) – The security services in Hadramout province, eastern Yemen, dispersed on Thursday in the city of Mukalla in a protest by citizens who denounced the power outage, local sources reported.

The sources indicated that gunmen affiliated with the security authorities arrested a number of demonstrators.

The citizens in Mukalla went out with an angry protest march against the problem of power outages, the collapse of the economy, and the deteriorating living conditions.

The sources stated that the demonstrators blocked the main street in the city, with the aim of forcing the authorities to respond to the demands of citizens after the power outage reached more than ten hours in light of the high temperatures.

The security services broke up the protest, raided a number of homes in the Mukalla neighborhood, and arrested three people due to their participation in the protest.

The authorities loyal to the Saudi-led coalition in the coastal areas of Hadramout have been pursuing sharp repressive policies towards any popular demonstrations since the presence of American forces in the province.
