Marine earthquake of 4.6 Richter strikes coast of Yemeni province

SANAA, May 02 (YPA) – Earthquake monitoring centers recorded during the first hours of Thursday the occurrence of a strong marine tremor off the coast of one of the Yemeni provinces.

It was reported that the marine tremor reached a magnitude of 4.6 Richter and at a shallow depth, and it struck off the coast of the Yemeni island of Socotra, east of the Gulf of Aden.

The centers expected other tremors around the epicenter of the marine tremor itself or through the transmission of seismic energy towards the Gulf of Aden, according to the “September 26” website.

The centers indicated the possibility of the tremors moving to the Arabian Sea and Somalia and reaching Djibouti and Ethiopia on the Red Sea.

This comes after the centers monitored a marine tremor off the coast of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman last Tuesday amid warnings that it would move towards Socotra and the Gulf of Aden.
