New York Police storm campus of Columbia University, arrest hundreds of protesters

WORLD, May 01 (YPA) – The New York Police stormed the campus of Columbia University and began evacuating a building where pro-Palestinian supporters are protesting against the genocidal war being waged by the Israeli occupation forces.

Videos shared on Social media platforms showed the police bringing in a truck equipped with a ladder to the “Hamilton Hall” building, where dozens of pro-Palestinian students were present.

Riot police officers stood in front of one of the building’s windows to enter from it.

The footage showed the police arresting hundreds of protesting students after entering the building to disperse the sit-in.

The university campus is located in the Manhattan neighborhood in the center of New York City.

These events come after the university’s president requested the New York Police in a message released on Tuesday night to disperse the sit-in staged by pro-Palestinian students and to maintain security on campus until at least May 17, to ensure order and prevent the re-establishment of any protest camps.
