Official moves in Sanaa to limit import of pesticides

SANAA, April 24 (YPA) – The Prime Minister of Sanaa government, Abdulaziz bin Habtoor, directed on Wednesday the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation to cooperate with various relevant authorities to develop urgent solutions to ensure that the import of pesticides is not expanded.

This came during his discussion with the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Abdulmalik Al-Thawr, aspects related to the use of pesticides in light of confirmed data showing the local market being flooded with pesticides, especially those that are internationally prohibited.

This also comes in light of the unprecedented recording of new cancer cases, according to reports from the Cancer Control Center and its branches.

Bin Habtoor stressed the importance of rationalizing the use of pesticides, intensifying awareness among farmers about the proper mechanism for their use, and reducing their harm to the health and safety of citizens.

He urged the concerned and relevant authorities, especially the security services, to combat and prevent the entry of smuggled and internationally prohibited pesticides.
