Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson: Any attack on Rafah will negatively affect the progress of ceasefire talks

DOHA, March 20 (YPA) – Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari, warned that any possible attack on the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah would lead to massive destruction and a humanitarian catastrophe.

“Any attack on Rafah will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe and will negatively affect the progress of ceasefire talks. The talks in Doha will focus on humanitarian aid and achieving a temporary truce. Israel must be held responsible for the safety of civilians and health facilities in the Gaza Strip,” Majed al-Ansari said during a press conference in Doha,

Al-Ansari expressed cautious optimism about the ceasefire talks in Gaza, affirming that they are not close to reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza “but they are optimistic.”

Indirect negotiations between the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” and the Zionist enemy began in the Qatari capital, Doha, yesterday, mediated by Qatari and Egyptian intermediaries.

Al-Ansari added: “Negotiations regarding the prisoner exchange deal between the Palestinian resistance and the Zionist enemy have resumed in all their tracks, and we are cautiously optimistic, and technical teams are meeting to discuss some details.”

He clarified that “yesterday’s meeting was to convey responses between the two parties, and it included the Zionist response to Hamas’ response,” according to him.

Al-Ansari emphasized that “the Doha talks focus on humanitarian aid and achieving a temporary ceasefire… We are still within the framework of exchanging proposals, and we have moved on to technical meetings,” and it is still too early to talk about any breakthroughs in the negotiations, but we are optimistic about it.

The Zionist enemy forces, backed by US and European regimes, continue to commit genocide in the Gaza Strip for the 165th consecutive day.
