Palestinian Minister of Health: Israeli occupation killed 340 doctors, health sector workers

WEST BANK, Feb. 07 (YPA) – Palestinian Health Minister Mai Alkaila said on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation killed 340 doctors and health sector workers during the war on the Gaza Strip.

This is according to what Alkaila stated during a protest organized by members of the Palestinian health sector, both governmental and private, in the city of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank.

Al-Kaila added in press statements on the sidelines of the protest: “During the war on Gaza, Israel killed 340 doctors and health sector workers and injured 900, while continuing to arrest 100 staff.” She confirmed that “health teams are exposed to serious violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.”

The Health Minister also described the Israeli special forces operation in Ibn Sina Specialized Hospital in Jenin (in the West Bank) last month, in which a patient and two of his companions were killed, as “a serious violation.”

Al-Kaila considered that “these cruel and illegal practices constitute clear violations of many provisions of international humanitarian law.”

She indicated that “violations of the Israeli occupation against the health sector are increasing despite the decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the war on Gaza.”

The minister called for providing protection for the health sector, holding the Israeli occupation accountable, and not treating it as a state above the law.
