MARIB, Feb. 03 (YPA) – Tribes in Marib city returned to setting up protest tents in rejection of the decision of the pro-coalition authorities to increase fuel prices.
Tribal sources in the city of Marib said that tribal protests gave the authorities 24 hours to rescind the decision that raised the price of a twenty-liter can of gasoline from 3,000 riyals to 8,000.
In a statement, the tribes called on the local authorities to commit to supplying the sons of Marib with oil according to the old price of “175” riyals per liter, threating to prevent oil transport trucks from reaching the Safer oil facility.
The statement also called on Safer workers to leave the facility in anticipation of possible escalation between tribes and armed factions loyal to the coalition.
The tribes asked the authorities to return to the existing agreement between the two parties, which was signed last January 2, which included the coalition-backed government’s commitment to forming committees to address corruption issues and the reduction of workers in diplomatic missions.
