Security Council holds emergency session after ICJ’s decision regarding Gaza

NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (YPA) – The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting next Wednesday, following the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) regarding the Gaza Strip, at the request of Algeria.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued Friday evening that it “followed with interest the ICJ’s decision regarding the lawsuit filed by the State of South Africa related to the commission of the crime of genocide in Gaza.”

The Algerian Foreign Ministry indicated that the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations had received instructions from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, requesting that a Security Council meeting be held as soon as possible, with the aim of giving binding force to the ruling of the ICJ regarding the temporary measures imposed on the Israeli occupation.
