20 people injured by Israeli occupation fire on Egyptian border

OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Jan. 16 (YPA) – Israeli occupation army said that twenty people, including gunmen, approached the Israeli border with Egypt near the Nitzana border crossing. The Israeli soldiers opened fire on them, leaving a number of injuries.

Earlier, Israeli media reported gunfire on the border with Egypt.

Former Israeli Joint Chiefs of Staff commander Maj. Gen. Gershon Hacohen earlier spoke of a plan for Tel Aviv to gain full control of the border crossings between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

He added that the army general command believes that there is an open penetration in this area and must be blocked and cannot be ignored.

The aim is to close the Rafah crossing, under the pretext that there is a security breach taking place in this area that leads to the smuggling of weapons inside the Gaza Strip, he added.
